After another week or so in Florida I said farewell to my brother Kenny and his wife Sharon and headed out to continue my adventure. I headed north again to Georgia, to see some more friends around Warner Robins AFB. I checked into my room at the Hilton Garden Inn Warner Robins (very nice hotel by the way) and called my good buddy Kurt W. Bond. I hadn’t seen Kurt since 2003. We went to dinner, were we laughed and talked about the good ol’ days while we were stationed at McClellan AFB in CA and spend a great evening just catching up. I’m just mad I didn’t think to get a picture of us before the night ended. Saturday rolled around and I spent most of it with another great family, the Martin’s. We had been stationed in Oklahoma together and it was a huge surprise to see how much their boys had grown since I last had seen them. We went to see their oldest, Connor, play baseball and soaked up the sun while watching some good ball. Back to their house for some dinner, I had another very enjoyable evening with them, more laughs and memories.
Sunday June 18th, Father’s Day, I headed out for western Georgia to a place called Providence Canyon State Park. OMG !!! I had a blast walking around and hiking the canyons and creek bed. I would have spent the whole day there, but a big thunderstorm rolled in and the thought of being down in a canyon creek bed during a big rain just wasn’t really on my bucket list at this point in time. I headed north down some ol’ Georgia back road to Athens Alabama to see my younger brother Rob and his family…… Til’ next time Georgia !!
Sorry about not updating my blog sooner. I was going to make some changes and after trying several different formats I decided I liked the original best.
I’ve been in Florida for a few weeks now visiting my brother Kenny and his wife Sharon. I did make a quick trip up to Georgia last week, but more on that later. The weather has been great, with a few afternoon thunderstorms every couple days or so. I have spent most of my time soaking up the sun in their pool, and schooling my brother on the fine art of Bass Fishing….. lol I do believe that bass fishing is my new favorite pass time. We have hooked into some really nice ones and have actually landed a few. Even though we didn’t catch something every time we went out, just spending time with my brother was great in its self. I did get to spend an afternoon with someone who holds a corner of my heart. Donnie Kruger and I were stationed together at Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. I hadn’t seen him in nearly 25 years. We sat and talked about old times and caught up on what we each have been doing recently. It was great seeing him again. The rest of my time has been spent fixing a couple issues that popped up with my Jeep. It seems that the back shocks went bad and with driving around, the back tires became cupped, making for some crazy loud road noise. But, I got the problem diagnosed, bought new shocks, which my brother and I changed ourselves, bought a new set of tires, and the ol’ Jeepster is back in action. Took it to a dealership and had them run a diagnostic on it to make sure there were no other problems, and it passed with flying colors. My next stop is back up to Georgia to see some more friends and do some exploring. I’ll try and get back on schedule with posting…. Stay tuned to Destination Adventure….lol
My second stop on my adventure was to the Outer Banks, to spend some time with my high school bestie, Martha and her family.
The first night a storm rolled in and provided some great photos. In the morning we went to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. It was a great stop since it was raining outside. We had a delicious lunch at Big Al’s, where the décor screamed 1950’s soda shop. We spent the following day at the beach. Lots of sun and fun in the sand ! ! A very cool ride on a ferry took us to Ocracoke Island and we enjoyed touring the island in a golf cart, (Martha’s driving hasn’t changed since high school…lol). Lots of souvenirs and awesome memories resulted in a great week.

Well my adventure begins today ! First stop is Elkton Maryland to see my good friend Marty. I left at about 5:00am and headed south. The Pennsylvania Turnpike sure does have a lot of toll stops… I pulled into Marty’s place about 6 hours later, and the adventure began. Our first stop was the Scottish Games. I had a great time watching the Massing of the Bands and the Caber Toss. We strolled around and tried some of the Scottish food. I had a really good time.
The next day we went to the Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area. Amazing ! ! Over 5,000 acres of woods and streams, with open fields and rock outcroppings. Hiking, biking, horseback riding trails intertwine throughout. Wildlife all around and beautiful scenery everywhere you looked. Perfect start to my adventure.
